The course teaches how to analyse different texts and how to analyse reading. The students have to read various books of different genres and formats and on that basis conduct a structured discussion, which includes the analysis of their reading experience. In this way they learn how to apply abstract concepts to concrete examples. The focus of the course is on longer narrative formats and on the concept of empathy as well as on the exchange of one’s own reading sentiments. By taking on the role of a moderator each student gains the basic skills of how to conduct a debate about a certain text and about one’s reading.
The course also touches upon various research methods regarding the effects of reading and pays attention to different readers’ profiles. It also includes strategies for reading encouragement.
