Verena Perko is an archaeologist with a doctoral degree in Roman archaeology, defended at the University of Ljubljana. She studied museology at the University of Zagreb and earned her second doctoral degree under the supervision of Prof. Ivo Maroević and Prof. Tomislav Šola. She complemented her professional knowledge at the ICOM summer schools at the Masaryk University in Brno, with a Paul Getty scholarship in USA museums, and at the University of East Anglia in Norwich. She is a museum curator and university lecturer, one of the initiators and founders of doctoral studies in heritage at the University of Ljubljana. As a museum curator, she focuses on engaging with the public and develops the interpretation of archaeological objects through the lens of myths and fairy tales. She is a researcher, poet and publicist with numerous publications. She has improved her performance techniques as an avid storyteller at the Storytelling Academy in Zagreb.
She is an active member of ICOM, ICOMOS, and several Slovenian professional and scientific associations.
