Selected Topics in Classical German Philosophy

The course is dedicated to the intensive study of selected topics in Classical German Philosophy, its immediate historical environment and repercussions connecting the authors between Kant and Hegel to the actual philosophical discussion. Since the specific content of the course varies each year, its nature is determined primarily by the objective to present the actual state of philosophical investigations in the field, and to prepare for the active participation in the philosophical debate. The relevant topics, to be specified for each semester, include: the problem of subjectivity, negativity, recognition, intersubjectivity, transcendental method, justification of knowledge, dialectical method and reason, theory of freedom, morality and Sittlichkeit, history, society, state etc. Special attention is given to Hegel’s confrontation with Kant, Jacobi, Fichte and Schelling, and to his influence on the contemporary philosophy.
