Slovene Studies Teachers at Foreign Universities

Mag. Laura Fekonja Fonteyn

In 2006 she graduated from the Department of Slovene Studies at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana. During her studies, she worked with the Centre for Slovene as a Second and Foreign Language as an assistant at the Seminar of Slovene Language, Literature and Culture. In 2007, she went to teach Slovene at Masaryk University in Brno, where she stayed until 2011. In the academic year 2011/12, she worked as a lecturer at the Department of South Slavic Languages at the Faculty of Arts in Zagreb. After Zagreb, she went to work at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade (from 2014 to 2020). Since autumn 2020 she has been working at the Faculty of Arts, University of Graz, at the Institute of Slavic Studies and at the Institute for Theoretical and Applied Translation Studies.

Throughout her time abroad, she has been active in numbers of projects (in cooperation with the Centre for Slovene as a Second and Foreign Language and foreign universities) to promote Slovenian culture in its broadest sense. She has organised and moderated numerous literary visits, e.g. of Drago Jančar, Feri Lainšček, Barbara Korun, Goran Vojnović, Štefan Kardoš, etc. She has also organised other events for a wider audience (concerts by Vlado Kreslin and Katalena), for students (lectures by renowned guest lecturers from Slovenia, translation workshops) or for her faculty colleagues  (e.g. roundtables). She also organises educational excursions to Slovenia.
